Starting Your Own Home Staging Business

Do you have a knack for design and a way with people? If so, then you could start your own home staging business. However first it is important to understand some things about home staging that you might not already know. For example, if you have visions of decorating with lavish furnishings and colors, you'd be better off as an interior designer or home decorator. The reason for this is because with home staging a minimalistic approach is often taken. Think beige furniture and white linens, clean and simple.

This can be done a variety of ways.

For example, in your staging business you may advise your clients on how to fix the exterior of their home with new lighting or landscaping changes. The interior of the home should be spotless and freshly painted, which may require cleaning and painting professionals. Often an established staging company works closely with these types of businesses as well as with real estate agents. As the owner of your own home staging company, it helps to make connections like this in the industry. Often real estate agents recommend staging companies to their clients. As these businesses are related they can often help each other land clients.

While starting a home staging business might sound like the ideal job for you, consider the need for such services in your area. In small towns, the Realtor often advises the client on how to show their home. Staging companies are more successful in big cities, and have been found to be in demand in states like Florida and California. Even if there is no real demand for staging in your area, you can work in the real estate industry and take classes that teach you how to counsel sellers on how to prepare their homes for sale.
