Interior Staging Tips For Home Sellers

The world of interior staging is similar yet different from other related fields like interior design and decorating. In the fields of design and decorating, you are working with the resident of a home or business to make the interior look the way they want. In the field of home staging, you are working with your clients to make the home as appealing to potential buyers who may tour the property. While there is still creativity involved in staging, it is much less so than in design or decorating. Many staged homes are on the plain side, which is exactly what you want.

If you have lots of bright colors in your interior living space the first step is to replace them with neutral tones. While you may not be able to go out and buy a new couch to replace your brightly colored one, a beige slipcover in an appealing microfiber fabric can work wonders. Add a few neutral coordinating throw pillows for a pulled together look. Small touches of luxury like plush area rugs can help add interest, as can special extras like scented candles, spa style baskets of towels and products in the bathroom, and carefully arranged decorative items.

The reason you want your interior to be so neutral is so the potential buyer can make their own vision of what they could turn the home into. Also, pack away things like family photos, personal effects and other things that make the home look lived in, even if it is. If the walls are dirty they will need fresh paint, and the home should be spotlessly deep cleaned. The furniture should be placed in a way to encourage an easy flow of space through the home as home shoppers walk through.
